Blessed are the humble, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Matthew 5:3-10

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.  Matthew 5:8

“Heart” – the control center, desires, affections, reasoning, conscience, intentions.

“Pure”

Clean, unmixed, unstained

The same through and through

Jesus was approached by Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem, who asked, “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat.”  Matthew 15:1-2

Hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you when he said:
These people honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 15:7-8

It’s not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth—this defiles a person.”

Then the disciples came up and told him, “Do you know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard what you said?”  Matthew 15:11-12

“Don’t you realize that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is eliminated?  Matthew 15:17

But what comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this defiles a person.  Matthew 15:18

For from the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies, slander. These are the things that defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile a person.”  Matthew 15:19-20

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy.  Matthew 23:25-28

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.  Matthew 5:8

CLEAN HEART

God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Psalm 51:10

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9

GUARDED HEART

Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.  Proverbs 4:23
