Kiss The Wave | Week Four

“I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.”
– Charles Spurgeon

1 He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil. 2 He had seven sons and three daughters. 3 He owned 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 teams of oxen, and 500 female donkeys. He also had many servants. He was, in fact, the richest person in that entire area. Job 1:1-3

2:9 His wife said to him, “Are you still trying to maintain your integrity? Curse God and die.”

Now, i’m not married. I am no expert on how wives should support their husbands. But i’m pretty positive…this isn’t it. There’s no…you can do this. You were built for this. We’ll get thru this together…instead…you should give up and die.

2:11 When three of Job’s friends heard of the tragedy he had suffered, they got together and traveled from their homes to comfort and console him…

2:12 When they saw Job from a distance, they scarcely recognized him. Wailing loudly, they tore their robes and threw dust into the air over their heads to show their grief. 13 Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words.

3:26 I have no peace, no quietness. I have no rest; only trouble comes.”

4:2 “Will you be patient and let me say a word? For who could keep from speaking out?
And then he proceeds to remind Job who he is. You were the guy. You were the faithful one. You were the encourager…the one who walked thru pain with so many others.

4:6 Doesn’t your reverence for God give you confidence? Doesn’t your life of integrity give you hope?

When your people are suffering.

  1. Show up.

  2. Stay.

  3. Say Nothing.

  4. Space.
