Don’t Be a Jerk | Week 2
SERIES: Don’t Be A Jerk
MESSAGE: 2x4s and Sawdust
DATE: August 15, 2021
We are on a mission to lead the DISCONNECTED and the UNFULFILLED to find a FULL LIFE in Jesus.
“Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged. For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use.” Matthew 7:1-2
“Judge” To analyze, evaluate, appraise and discern.
“Krino” To condemn
We should evaluate positions.
We shouldn’t devalue people.
- Who is on my “thank God I’m not like them” list?
- How do I want God to judge me?
Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a beam of wood in your own eye? Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:3-5
Self Aware > Self Righteous
“We cannot see clearly how to assist our brother, because we cannot see our brother. And we will never know how to truly help him until we have grown into that kind of person who does not condemn.“ (Dallas Willard, “The Divine Conspiracy”)
“There but for the grace of God, go I.” (John Bradford)
