Don’t Be A Jerk | Week 3
SERIES: Don’t Be A Jerk
MESSAGE: Dogs & Pigs
DATE: August 22, 2021
“Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged. For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use.” Matthew 7:1-2
We should evaluate positions.
We shouldn’t devalue people.
Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a beam of wood in your own eye? Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:3-5
Self Aware > Self Righteous
Helpful > Right
Don’t give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before pigs, or they will trample them under their feet, turn, and tear you to pieces. Matthew 7:6
“The point is not the waste of the pearl, but that the person given the pearl is not helped.” (Dallas Willard, “The Divine Conspiracy”)
“If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it? In the same way faith, if it does not have works, is dead by itself.” James 2:15-17
“Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8
Ask them.
Ask God.
